Calaveras Boulevard is doing quiet work as the town's connective tissue right now, and the next few months are the clearest proof of it.
Follow Calaveras from the hills down to the Great Mall and you pass, in order: the Ed R. Levin trailhead, the Milpitas Sports Center where the July 4 concert happens, a new steakhouse concept setting up on the strip near Chick-fil-A, and the Sunday farmers' market anchoring the western end. This is not a coincidence of geography so much as a reason to plan differently. A Sunday morning that used to mean one errand can, this summer, become a hike, a market run, and a coffee on the way home without a single detour.
The thesis of this post is simple. You do not need to drive to Santana Row or downtown San Jose to have a good weekend. The best of Milpitas this season is already arranged in a line for you.
The food news is the most concentrated it has been in a while, and it is clustering in two spots: the Calaveras corridor and Milpitas Square.
