If you live in Cupertino, you already know the summer script writes itself in two zip-code pockets. Memorial Park runs the evening programming. The stretch of Vallco Parkway and Main Street a mile east runs the food. The trick this year is that both sides of that axis picked up new anchors within the last eight weeks, and the calendar has enough overlap that a Thursday concert can plausibly end at a matcha counter that opened in June.
That is the argument of this post. Cupertino's summer isn't scattered. It's concentrated along a short east-west corridor, and knowing the sequence is worth more than knowing the individual venues.
Memorial Park is doing the heaviest lifting of any city-run space in Cupertino this summer. The city's Summer Concert Series runs Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Park Amphitheater, with a different band each week. That's the weeknight default.
The weekend layer is more interesting because it isn't the same programming residents remember from prior years. On Saturday, July 25, the amphitheater hosts a free performance of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra at 6 p.m., which is a heavier text than the comedies that usually get the outdoor treatment.
Before that, on Saturday, July 18, A Taste of Cupertino Art and Wine Experience takes over Main Street Cupertino from 10 a.m. That's a mile east, but on foot or bike it's the same evening.
Here is the compact version:
| When | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Thursdays, 6:30–8 p.m. | Summer Concert Series | Memorial Park Amphitheater |
| Sat, July 18, 10 a.m. | A Taste of Cupertino Art and Wine | Main Street Cupertino |
| Sat, July 25, 6 p.m. | Free Shakespeare in the Park: Antony and Cleopatra | Memorial Park Amphitheater |
| Fridays, 6:30–8:30 p.m. (Aug 21 through late Sept) | Friday Nights live music | Main Street Town Square |
The Main Street Friday Nights run starts August 21 and repeats weekly through September 25 on the Town Square at 19459 Stevens Creek Blvd. If your household has been circling the summer concert schedule and assuming things end when school starts, that's the correction: the programming just moves half a mile southeast and adds dinner options.
A resident who last paid attention to the Vallco Parkway food row a year ago is now missing three data points. All three are within a two-minute walk of each other.
